Edi Niederlander is still, to this day, acclaimed as one of South Africa's best contemporary female guitarists. Her skills as a rock, blues and folk guitarist and songwriter are legendary is this country. She has broken through stereo-typical gender barriers and shared countless stages through the years, with her male contemporaries, amongst them, Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mchunu, Tony Cox, Steve Newman and Vusi Mahlasela. She has released 4 cds of original compositions, three through the Mountain label (ANCIENT DUST, HEAR NO EVIL and REFLECTIONS FROM PRE-LEBERATION SOUTH AFRICA) and one independently (DREAMLAND), varying in styles from pure acoustic to solid rock, to African and World fusion. Her love of African rythms and harmonies are evident in her ability to musically capture the essence of both rural and urban South Africa. She has contributed to Film scores (JOCK OF THE BUSHVELD), performed in Ireland and was invited to play at Nelson Mandela's first Presidential adress.

Edi currently shares her guitar playing skills by teaching people of all ages, particularly the 30-60 age group, to enjoy playing and singing the songs they used to listen to from the '60s, through the decades to the present. Having taught many of the parents of her students, she believes there is a longing amongst that generation, and the baby boomers to get back to their musical roots... and so the concept for GUITAR 4 LATE BEGINNERS, was born, giving late starters the opportunity to embrace their side-lined passion to play the guitar.
